o1 introduces "Chain of Thought" (CoT), where the model generates intermediate steps in its reasoning. This allows it to tackle intricate problems with more thoughtful, nuanced outputs, spending more time "thinking" during inference.

Is it better for users? 

Yes and no. 

o1 excels at complex multi-step tasks, generating a much more comprehensive and “thought out” answer from a singular prompt. CoT reduces the need for extensive and creative prompting by delivering more complete answers in one go. However, for simpler tasks, the improvements are minimal, often hard to distinguish from previous versions.
